Principal's Message

Principal Jakubik

Welcome to Corona Fundamental Intermediate School. The staff is looking forward to meeting our new seventh grade students and families. We also look forward to deepening our connection with our eighth grade students and families.

The Falcon is the fastest animal in the world obtaining speeds above 180 miles per hour as it dives toward prey. It is one of the most successful birds of prey in the world. I point this out, because CFIS students are some of the most successful students in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Their ‘pursuit’ of knowledge focuses on a strong adherence to a basic set of principles. CFIS strives to provide students with a rigorous, educational program within a safe, supportive learning environment. With an emphasis on problem solving, critical thinking, and effective communication skills, students will become contributing members of society who respect peers, authority, and country. Our goal is to provide students with the skills they need to succeed in a global, rapidly changing, society.

While at CFIS, students will participate in engaging lessons that are connected to the Common Core Standards. They will also build study skills and explore extracurricular activities. All students will participate in the core subjects of language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science. Students will also participate in a variety of exploratory courses. These classes allow students to determine and pursue their academic areas of interest. Exploratory courses rotate at the semester and include classes in woodworking, career technical education, literacy, music, art, creative writing, forces in motion, and success for school. In addition, support in reading and mathematics is provided through intervention elective courses.

Each student participates daily in physical education. Students, throughout the year, engage in flag football, softball, soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball, fitness, safety, and nutrition. The Physical Education Program promotes teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, responsibility, and self-discipline through every activity and unit presented.

Parent participation is strongly encouraged throughout the year. Parent Connect is updated on a regular basis to inform parents of their child's progress. We have also added a Community Liaison to assist parents and provide them with important information to help support their child. If you are interested in getting involved, our PTSA members donate their time and energy to enrich our students and staff. They do everything from fundraising to chaperoning dances, and their efforts contribute to overall school success. Every year, PTSA raises thousands of dollars for CFIS, and we all appreciate the time they take from their own families to help the CFIS family. If you have not joined PTSA, I encourage you to do so. Your small investment makes a huge impact on our students.

Our staff is comprised of highly qualified individuals who are committed to the education of every CFIS student, and we work together to ensure students receive the individual attention they need to experience success in intermediate school. Communication is key to the success of your child. I encourage you to communicate with teachers via email or phone. It takes a village to raise a child, and I want to welcome you to our CFIS VILLAGE.

Thank you for choosing CFIS.
